Recommended EPA References

This is a list of our six favorite brownfields documents -- they provide helpful information about conducting brownfields assessments, hiring consultants, and many other parts of the brownfields redevelopment process. Each are available as pdf documents from the EPA website. You will need the free software program Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them, click here to download the software.

Invaluable resource containing step by step information on assessment and cleanup aspects of brownfield redevelopment. Includes a CD-ROM version of the material and hundreds of references to additional resources.

Financing Brownfields Development Projects: A Guide for Developers

Although written for developers, the guide contains concise, useful information about brownfields beyond financing including site assessment and liability issues.


Brownfields Technology Primer: Requesting and Evaluating Proposals That Encourage Innovative Technologies for Investigation and Cleanup

Fairly technical guide to the process of writing a quality assurance project plan for a brownfield redevelopment. Incorporates the Data Quality Objectives method, one of the 3 basic components of the Triad Approach to brownfields assessment. The Triad Approach is a streamlined method of environmental site assessment.

This CD-ROM contains much useful information and documentation. Among them are the Citizen’s Guides to which explain the technologies used to cleanup hazardous waste in a very easily understandable way. Some of the guides are available in Spanish. Many of the documents reviewed here are included on this CD-ROM.
