Organization or Project: Nevada Division of Environmental Protection

Description: TAB is exploring opportunities to collaborate with the state brownfields coordinator, most likely on a rural brownfields conference.

11/4 /2002
TAB met with state Department of Environmental Protection representatives to discuss the planning and organization of a Nevada brownfields conference in 2003. TAB provided suggestions about how to gage potential interest in such a conference and provided information about their experiences organizing similar conferences in Oregon.

Description: The County was recently selected as a brownfields grant recipient. TAB has agreed to assist the County in its community outreach and education program. TAB anticipates preparing and presenting workshops on site assessment and cleanup for community members and selected property owners.

TAB has provided assistance to the county economic development agency to assess potential brownfield redevelopment sites. TAB provided input on a brownfields utilization plan to evaluate strategic brownfields sites in Clackamas County. The plan is intended to enable the county to determine the nature and extent of contamination at these sites and develop an approach and costs analysis for cleanup. TAB also assisted the county in developing a comprehensive brownfields redevelopment strategy and provided a letter of support for the county's 2001 EPA grant application.

TAB prepared a letter of support for the County's EPA pilot grant application.

TAB discussed the county's community outreach needs and the possibility of holding workshops on issues such as liability, financing, and cleanup.

TAB is assisting Clackamas County with selection of a consultant to do environmental assessments throughout the County. TAB activites include review and comment on the Request For Proposal prepared by the County. TAB staff will be serving on the committee charged with reviewing incoming proposals and selecting a consulting/engineering team.

Organization or Project: Oregon Brownfields Conference

Description: TAB helps coordinate this annual conference in partnership with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Oregon Economic and Community Development Department.

Notes on TAB Involvement:

12/3 /2001
Planned and staged its third annual conference to assist communities in redeveloping brownfields. The conference took place on October 8 and 9, 2001 and included presentations from thirty-six speakers on topics including environmental assessment and cleanup, managing legal liability, financing cleanup and redevelopment, and actual case studies of brownfields redevelopment projects. Ninety representatives of municipal, county, regional, state, and federal government, as well private sector consultants and attorneys attended the conference.

TAB participated in the 4th Annual Conference on Sept 5-6. Michael Fernandez gave a presentation on brownfields basics with Charlie Bartsch from the Northeast Midwest Center and helped facilitate the Brownfields Mystery Theater session. Approximately 200 people participated in this year's conference.

Organization or Project: Oregon DEQ Brownfields Program

TAB Contact: Michael Fernandez, michael.fernandez@orst.edu, 541-737-4023 Description: We act as a resource to the ODEQ brownfields program. ODEQ has asked TAB to prepare and administer a survey of community brownfields needs this year.

Notes on TAB Involvement:

Working with Oregon DEQ and EPA Region 10 Brownfields Coordinator in developing a series of one day workshops to be held in communities around Oregon. Workshops are targeted to area municipal and development leaders, and will provide Brownfields basics, a handbook of tools and information resources, as well as consideration of some local/regional brownfield issues. First workshop held this fall in Klamath Falls, OR.

TAB participates in the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality brownfields meetings.

Date Letter of Agreement signed: 10/6/2000

Description: TAB continues to assist this showcase community as a regulatory liaison and community involvement resource. We also continue to provide technical assistance as needed.
Items in Letter of Agreement: Prepare "master" site cleanup fact sheet; evaluate current state/federal interagency workgroup for opportunitites to expand and build improved partnerships; review existing Showcase Program web links and suggest improvements and additions; recommend 10-12 essential brownfield library documents; evaluate the exisiting Regulatory Innovation Action Plan and suggest how to build upon DEQ reforms; evaluate implications of the Endangered Species Act.

Currently working with the City of Portland, OR to develop a list of potential redevelopment sites and to perform community outreach related to redevelopment. Partnering with the The Urban League to obtain a Brownfields Job Training grant.
12/3 /2001
TAB will continue to participate in Technical Committee meetings and provide technical assistance in the form of report and data review as needed.

Organization or Project: City of Spokane, WA

Description: The City of Spokane received a brownfields assessment grant from EPA and a brownfields revolving loan fund grant in May 2002. TAB is providing information about the assessment process.

The City Council approvded acceptance of the brownfields assessment grant.
10/14/2002
TOSC answered questions about preparing RFP's and selecting consultants and recommended written resources about these steps.
12/23/2002
TAB is assisting Spokane in tasks related to brownfields redevelopment. Activites include guidance on writing Request For Proposals from consultants and increasing stakeholder participation through marketing and PR.
